Elizabeth A. "Betty" Gilly died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, with her devoted family at her bedside. Born in Raritan, she moved to Bound Brook in 1947, when she married her loving husband Frank Gilly. Betty was the daughter of the late Carmen and Filomenia Nesta DeMelio. Betty was a graduate of St. Peter's School of Nursing, and was a Registered Nurse at both St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick, and Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. She retired in 1950 to become a full time mother and wife. Betty was a long time member of the Bound Brook Seniors and had served as trip organizer and Secretary. She was also member of the Bound Brook Lodge No. 1388, B.P.O. Elks Ladies Auxiliary, and the Ladies of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 988, Bound Brook. She was also a devoted communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bound Brook.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 65 years, former Mayor Frank Gilly, Sr.; daughters Phyllis (Larry) Bugal and Gail (Michael) Monaghan, both of Bound Brook; son Frank Gilly, Jr., M.D., of Washington; and three grandchildren, Larry Bugal, Jr., Melanie and Veronica Monaghan, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on 9:00 A.M. Friday, May 4th, from Hagan Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook, followed by a 9:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation is 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, and 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday.
