GEORGE PSAK AGE: 83 BRIDGEWATER George Psak died on Friday, July 2, 2010. He lived in Bridgewater, Middlesex, Bound Brook and Bayonne in his 83 years. He was born in 1926 in the village of Horna, Czechoslovakia, and named after his grandfather. He arrived with his mother, Mary Ribnicky, at Ellis Island at age 2 to join his father, Paul, who started their home in Jersey City, then settled in Bayonne. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during WWII in Okinawa and later worked for Western Electric and Tide Water Oil. He met Doris Prusakowski at a church dance and they married in 1950, then moved to Bound Brook in 1955 where he was operating the Bound Brook Diner since 1953. They brought Cranford Diner to downtown Bound Brook in 1957. It was a landmark featured on the cover of the book "New Jersey Diners". It was lost in the floods of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. George also owned the Sunset Diner in Green Brook, which he operated with his wife, Doris, for over 26 years. They moved their five children to Middlesex in 1965 and attended Our Lady of Mt. Virgin R.C. Church in Middlesex. In 1978 he retired but soon helped develop a glass making business in PA, then was a real estate broker for many years. He was three time President of the Bound Brook Lions Club, President and Honorary Man of The Year of P.A.C.E.- The Polish American Cultural Endeavors Association, a life member of the Bound Brook Elks, The Moose Club, American Legion, and a member of the Bound Brook Fire Department. He enjoyed playing pinochle, traveling, flower gardening, and dancing with his wife. He and Doris were always the first two on the dance floor. GEORGE PSAK Mr. Psak was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Doris C. Prusakowski Psak, in 2006 and his brother, Paul in 1975. Surviving are his two beloved sons, Honorable George L. and wife, Remi of Flemington and Paul M. and wife, Mary Lou of Bridgewater; his three loving daughters, Deborah Psak of Easton, PA, Janet Abbondante and husband, James of Phillipsburg, and Nancy Psak of Netcong; his cherished grandchildren, Jared, Lauren, Adam, Sara Rose, Christin, Paul, James, and George; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Olivia and Emma, who was born the day after his death, plus two on the way; his beloved sister, Mary Ann Ezbianski and husband, Richard, of Cranford; nephew, Thomas Psak and wife, Julie; and niece, Amy Ann Ezbianski-Kruse and husband, David. Viewing hours will be at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876, (908) 526-7638, Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will begin with a prayer at 9 AM on Wednesday, July 7th, at Branchburg Funeral Home followed by a 10 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church, 600 Harris Ave., Middlesex, NJ 08846. Entombment will follow in St. Bernard Mausoleum, Bridgewater.
