Who remembers the bakery (think it was just called the BB Bakery) that was on main street right behind St Joe's. I remember sneaking over to it out the back of the "playground" on recess to get some donuts. They made a plain donut with vanilla icing that I loved. Remember the playground with the line down the center..boys on one side girls on the other..gotta love those nuns
I have to say I am surprised this Bakery was missed in the Yesterdays BB Section of the forum. I could of swore there was a thread about it but after looking at the 5 pages of threads I don't see it.
Back to the BB Bakery. I guess I wasn't the only one who would sneak over to the Bakery to grab some donuts. One of my favorites were the Chocolate Covered round donuts. I use to sneak over there with one of my classmates with the intials J.F. for the donuts especially on one of those days when we knew the Hot Lunch in the school cafeteria wasn't what we liked so instead we ate donuts.
We also would sneak down to Tri-R Food on main street during lunch time to play Pinball. Man if the Nuns would of ever caught us.

My Mom would stop there on Thursday nights after cashing her pay check at the bank. She would usually stop at Johnny Bongiorno's to say hi and talk to him for a while over a cup of coffee or soda and then a stop at the bakery for a bag of donuts and then a stop at Kolumpus' 5 and 10 and usually buy me a small toy. It's strange but once you move out of the area that you grew up in, you can never ever find or buy many of the things you loved back home, like hard rolls, Italian sausage and peppers, taylor ham or really good pizza
I agree..but today I might have finally found a place up here with good pizza..not Chitch's good (kinda biased) but never the less pretty good..sure hope i just did not hit them on a good day..taylor ham (pork roll) can be orders on line..
I just remembered being told a story about a fire that ocurred at the BB bakery, which was before my time because I don't remember it, and a retired member of BBPD. Evidentally, he was in the bakery at the fire scene eating nut topping he had found at the counter where the pastries were made, and it was pointed out to him it had roaches or some other kind of bugs in it. This was told to me by other now retired officers, kind of funny I thought.
You may of had to go to parochial school at St.Joeseph's to remember this. Don't know how many people remember on this forum but back in the day, 50's to very early 60's when going to school at St. Joes you were expected to go to mass on a couple of weekday mornings before school started with your class. Back then you couldn't eat anything before going to communion for at least an hour or so before. Once the Mass was over the school served a Pastry type of bun maybe the size of a hot dog roll with a carton of milk or going way back an actual small glass bottle of milk either Chocolate or regular. The bun or pastry came from either the Bound Brook Bakery or For-get-me-not Bakery and had everything in it such as Cinnimon and coconut with a bit of lemon meringue mixed in. Man I could taste that bun right now. I just wish I could remember what they called it and if anyone knows of a bakery that still bakes that pastry bun please let me know.
