Don't know how many of you remember Scotty's Sunoco station on Union Ave right next door to the Dairy Queen across from the BB Apartments. Don't remember Scotty's last name but his partner Walter Fox who also worked for Royal Chevrolet during the day I got to know well over the years until his passing back during the 90's.
For those not in the know Dixie Dude from this forum owned the same Sunoco station before Scotty took it over during the 60's even before I met him.
One other thought comes to mind for those not in the know. Sunoco back in the day had the highest rated octane gasolene on the market. Blue 260 Sunoco if I remember correctly was 108 octane compared to todays high test most stations sell at maybe 92 or 93 rated octane. Back in the day regular gasolene had a higher octane at a 95 or better rating then todays high test.

My families station of choice was Steve Turiaks ( not sure of spelling) station near the corner of Romney and Talmadge on the north side. A good friend of the family was also his mechanic, Tony Sinabaldi.

Gia, Cam 2 once a Sunoco product back in the day use to market the Racing Gasolene. Both myself and Dixie Dude knew the local destributor in this area Wayne Carlson from Middlesex formerly South Bound Brook. Wayne passed away quite awhile ago and his business was sold for a very large amount of money. Today its anyones guess who took over the racing gas side of the business. Wayne and his wife use to bring the Cam 2 pumper truck right down to Englishtown Raceway Park and other places for the races. I remember being able to buy the Blue 260 Sunoco at Scotty's for 36.9 cents a gallon if not a little lower as late as 1970-71 maybe even '72 before the gas embargo took place and gasolene started going up higher and higher in price. By 1975 when unleaded cars hit the streets Blue 260 Sunoco 108 octane saw its better days and was soon unavailable to the general public.

Remember Scotty's Sunoco very well. Benny P. worked there when he had that 1964 Pontiac LeMans... I Remember hanging there one night when a kid from Bridgewater, nicked named Faz.. took off in his 66 GTO (421 tri power) jumped on it as he left the station heading for the come back spun the car and got hit by another car coming the other way...I worked at Gene's Sunoco was across from Shop Rite on Union Ave. It was great buying race gas right out of the pump...I still run the Sunoco Race fuel in the Buick its 110 octaine and its $8.50 a gallon down here...

As I recall, my dad used to stop there for fuel for the race car on the way to the track, Old Bridge, Flemington and later Nazareth. By the time he started racing Nazareth, the car ran on that nasty smelling alcohol!
