Chinese Laundry

Way, way back when, I remember a Chinese Laundry right across the street from the old Lyric movie house on Maiden Lane. There was a short cut alley way running from Maiden Lane to Mountain Ave and his side or back door was there. It was always open because of all the heat in the laundry and there was always steam coming out of ithe doorway. Whenever we'd walk through the alley way, we could see this guy, he looked like the guy who played in Goldfinger, real scary looking, washing all of the clothes.
Does anyone remember the place?

I remember that place well Zach. Forgot all about it up to now until you mentioned it. A turn on to Maiden Lane from Main Street and it was on your left side last store before the alley way on the left.

What you guys remember is Sam Wah, Chinese laundry.  Sam owned the place as well as lived there in the laundry til the day he died.  He never wandered very far and he could always be found there.

Zach,

Don't ask what I had for breakfast yesterday but I remember so many things from long ago.  I remember the day your mom brought her new 66 Chevelle home, white with blue inside!

You're correct, white and blue. I loved that car. Unfortunately, I just about drove it in the ground

Yes, I do. Originally, it was my Grandfathers car. Later on, after he bought a new car, he gave it to my Mother. What I remember most about it was, one day we were going to visit my Aunt in South Plainfield when the car shut off and started smoking like crazy in Dunellen. I remember my Mother running to someone's house to call the fire dept. because she thought the car was on fire. About 5 minutes later the smoke had pretty much subsided but here come three fire trucks, sirens screaming and about 9 firemen looking for the a fire to put out. Long store short, fan belt had broken.
Just the other day, I can't remember where I was driving but I saw a Studebaker sitting in someone's driveway and I immediately remembered our trip to South Plainfield.
