Electric Shop - - - Some Good Memories

I had my first Electric shop class during my Freshman year at BBHS with a Mr. Baker. I have to admit I really enjoyed it. To this day I have to say some of the knowledge I picked up in that class came to good use over the years from dealing with electrical issues on some of my Classic Cars to just about anything to do with the use of electricity from appliances to the electric in my home. Its a real shame that Bound Brook High School did away with their Shop Classes some years ago from what I understand. Kids today I feel need to be able to work with their hands and will need to know how in their daily lifes after going to high school. The shop classes offered by BBHS never hurt anyone. It surely didn't hurt me. smile

 Hey Stone
I didn't go to BBH after St. Joe's but went on to Middlesex County Vo Tec in New Brunswick where they had a similar program with a few weeks in various shop formats to help decide which career was right for you. I chose Auto Mechanics which eventually brought me to owning my own sucessful business in time. Other shops I took during those years helped me in life as you mentioned in home repair and general maintainance. As my Grand Father told me " Sonny you will never go hungry working with your hands ' A qoute I remember to this day.   Dixie

You guys put me to shame. I had a really neat electric shop teacher at BBHS named George Holiday.  This guy was a real character.  He was a **ll buster at times but was a really fair guy and a good educator.  If you would ask him a question, his standard answer was "thems in the books, read the book". Unfortunately Mr. Holiday has passed away.   Anything I ever built in electric shop often caught fire and had to be tossed out the window.  Thus, to this day, I just don't go there.

Jay,
George Holiday was a good guy and teacher. Unfortunately I didn't take Electric Shop II so I never had him as a teacher. Kick myself today for not doing so. Mr. Holiday came to teach Electric Shop in my Sophmore year so I got to know him pretty well anyway over the 3 years I was still there. I never heard anyone complain about him. Everyone who had him as a teacher got along great with him. Its too bad Doc Holiday passed on. I use to see him on occasion once he retired and still while he was teaching as he use to come around to see some of my friends who where his ex-students either at their homes or business's. I did see when he became ill. Didn't realize it was live threatening at the time though.

Ahhhh Mr. Holiday was the funniest teacher I had at BBHS. I was also the only girl in my class and did pretty well. I loved his sense of humour the most, especially the sarcasm.

I also had Mr. Holiday for Electric Shop. I remember sticking the transistors in the electric sockets to make them POP! He got me involved in Cross Country, which I did for three years.

I remember Mr Holiday holding wires plugged in and not getting shocked and then he dared you to do the same .And then he would laugh at you for being so stupid .

I had Mr Holiday for ele. shop II ... He did make the class fun.. One of the first days of class he tried the " hold the wires" stunt and I didn't fall for it.. I told my Dad about it and my Dad looks at me and asked " you weren't stupid enough to grab the wires... were you?? LOL

I remember in Mr. Bakers Electric Shop I class in my Freshman year when Seniors Gerry Parks and Harry Parks of SBB had a metal chair all wired up for someone to sit on. It was their version of an Electric Chair. What a bunch of guys in that class. I also had Mike Hayes in the same class also a Senior. I am sure all remember him. Red Hair black frame eye glasses. Many know he ended up dying in Vietnam even before I graduated BBHS. He was an easy going fellow I remember. A good guy. What a shame to have something like that take him out so early in life.
