Remember Romano's Bus Company on Second St. The owners sons were named, Joe and Tommy (he was called Bob a Head. I think it was because of the way he walked, his head would bob with every step). Didn't matter what school you went to, if you lived far enough from the school, you had to have riden in a Romano Bus
Of course remember Romano's. Had to pass there everyday on the way to Lamonte School. Joe and Tommy were actually cousins I believe. Only time we got to ride a Romano's bus was for school trips, usually got to ride in the nice top of the line cruiser style bus for trips to N.Y. On the more local trips we had to ride the yellow ones. Funny, Romano's was contracted to take kids from Lamonte School the short distance to St. Joe's on 2nd street for catechism, we had to pay a dime for the ride!! I guess they had safety in mind.
I know Joe Romano well and also know Tommy but haven't run into Tom in a while. I also know both of their fathers as they were partners in Romano's bus at one time. Saw Bub in Somerset Rehab and Temporary nursing home last year as he had an illness. Joe R's dad I see on occasion. A little history here. Joe Romano had one of the coolest Corvette's that I ever saw back in the mid 60's while living in Bound Brook. Don't know if anyone here on this forum remembers. The StingRay was a coppertone bronze color with a glassed in ducktail in back with very large Mickey Thompson tires on the rear, something you did not see back in the day unlike later on when the 70's came. For a matter of fact you didn't see many Corvettes in the area at all back then unlike today. I use to see Joe driving down my street towing a yellow Hydroplane type of racing boat with that Vette. Man that was a site to see back then. I have to say if anything ever influenced me in the liking of Corvette StingRays back in the day this was definitely one of them. I have to also mention that I went up to PA back then during the 60's to watch Joe race that Hydroplane racing boat which was another cool thing to see as a teen.

I remember Joe's Vette, he sold it to Glenn Murry (?spelling) and he ended up crashing it on rt 22 and it burned to the ground. Can still see it sitting in front of Carpy's all burnt up.
