Bub Brokaws Gas Station - - - - Main Street

You have to go back pretty far to remember Bub Brokaws service station on Main Street. I can't remember for sure what brand of gas was sold there. For some reason I remember it to be a Flying A, Gulf or Texaco but not really sure. Bubs station was located right across the street from Cal's Esso. I remember the place well as a kid because of the soda machine right outside the station I guess. It was the older type where you lifted the lid up. The soda bottles where in plain view all standing up. You would put your dime in the machine and slide the bottle along the channel to the area where you could take one bottle out of the machine. Back in the day I guess some older kids figured a way to beat the system. Many a time you would see that someone popped the cap off of a few bottles of soda that were in line to be sold yet the bottles were empty. I guess someone figured a way confused to rig a straw up to drink the soda while leaning into the machine once the cap was popped with a bottle opener.biggrin

Wow, that coke machine sounds pretty far-out! If the "next" cokes were all sucked dry,  I guess you were out of luck unless you paid for an empty one first? Did it look anything like this:

Coke Slider

Wow,
What a beautiful restored Coke machine. I would love to have that in my finished basement next to my Wurlitzer Juke Box.

so for 3 grand it's yours :)

A friend of mine's father had a wurlitzer in his basement as well.. A great score from a local diner. He also had several of the remote-control units that would be at the tables in a "special" portion of the diner.

I remember Bound Brook Diner had those satlelite juke boxes in the booths & on the counter and of course the main one by the front door.
