I remember the Food Fair and ShopRite on Union Ave as well as the (Mayfair,Foodtown,Big W...All One Just Different Names) on Hamilton Street but I don't remember the Acme. Must of been before my time. If you didn't mention it here on this forum I would of never known. As they say you learn something everyday.smile

Stone Acme wasnt before you time........If you remember Elliot Bevarges where it was in bb on Union Ave it was right next to it. Many residents would shop Acme then run over there to get there cases of soda

If I am not mistaken, Acme occupied the Effinger Building.  Food Fair was on Hamilton and was named that before it became Big W and all the other names. .  I remember the Acme because they had he live lobsters in the tank when you walked in.

Joesdad you are wrong on this one. Food Fair as stated was located where Efingers is now closer to Union Ave. They knocked it down as they built the new Efingers store to make room for parking. Read my post above. Mayfair, Foodtown & Big W occupied the grocery store on Hamilton Street. I use to work for both the Foodtown and Big W back in the 60's so this I know for a fact and remember it quite well as a kid as being the Mayfair Supermarket many years before.biggrin

Right on, caseylu! Over the weekend I was trying to remember if that was where it was filmed.
I remember the program. Isn't that the one where they would give the contestants a certain amount of time to run through the store with a shopping cart and get as many groceries as possible?

Gia, I have to admit I don't remember it. I didn't start driving until '68 and prior to that my family didn't get our first car until '61 in town. I basically got around on my feet before that. I do remember the ShopRite and Food Fair and the Mayfair etc though as mentioned in my other posts. Do you have any idea how long that Acme operated until? Did it make it past the Mid 60's. If I remember correctly the Shop Rite was closed before the Mid 60's but I could be wrong. Maybe someone can enlighten me here. Food Fair I am sure ran into the 70's and maybe closed in the late 70's.

We used to skateboard down Food Fair hill... Early 60's.. Behind the store where the trucks would deliver the food..
I remember climing up too look in the windows that faced Union Ave. to watch them filming Supermarket Sweep..
Remember going to the Acme across from Havens Ford, I think that was the first place I ever saw doors that opened when you walked up to them..lol
