I don't remember Ben's but wasn't Tip Top's on Union Ave? I think Joe and Jerry were the owners If that's the one you're thinking of, we liked to hang out there after football and baseball practice. Very good cherry cokes. Good memories and bad, my 1st "real" girlfriend brokeup with me there.
I remember Tip Tops very well I worked there for yesrs & hungout there even longer. It was originally Joe & Jerry's if you go back far enough, to remember that. Breakfast was a coffee & a buttered hardroll ( Hardrolls were the best in town) along with about a hour of pinball before school. Favorite machine was 8- Ball, good for at least 15 to 20 free plays a day.
I sure remember hanging there before and after school.. Who can forget Jerry making sandwiches with his cigarette hanging out of his mouth.. (G.I. pepper) That was a meeting place for us, before going out.. I also remember the HarleyMan as the preist on Ash Wednesday's performing the service at the booth behind the pinball machines and going to school late " cause we when to chuch that morning for ash"... Boy are we going to burn in hell...LOL

Yes, Carmine worked there for years, I think his father in law owned part of Tip Tops. Carmine went on to open a terrific Italian restuarant in Middlesex which he was very successful in. He has sold it and I believe retired. He worked hard for many years and hopefully is enjoying his retired years.
