Jersey Tomatoes

 Hey
I was just thinking of a nice BIG Jersey Tomatoe sandwhich with salt/pepper & Mayo with a Cold glass of milk. Are they available up there yet ??  They don't taste the same down here in the South. Dixie

Dixie,
My Tomato plants are just showing fruit but I am sure South Jersey has them already as they plant them earlier. Some of the old timers around these parts probably have some of their own ready to pick as they plant some plants earlier and some later I believe.

Ohhhhhhhhh what I wouldn't give for a tomato sandwich with a Jersey tomato!  When I mention them to people down here in FLorida, they look at me like I'm nuts!  What about the fried Italian pepper sandwiches on a nice hunk of Italian bread?  Yummmmmmm!

Minty,
You had to mention about the fried Italian pepper sandwiches. Now you made me hungry. Man I haven't had one in a long while. I know you are talking about those long skinny peppers that you find mostly green in color and some red. My family fried them whole in Olive oil and you put them in a sandwich whole, eat the seeds and all. Makes you feel like you went to heaven and back after eating one of those. Now I am speaking like an Italian. What the heck I am one. biggrin

I can relate Dixie!  Geeeez, the south, huh?

Those are exactly the peppers I'm talking about Rolling!  Fried in olive oil!  OMG!!!!!!!  Hey, did either one of you ever have the zucchini flowers dipped in egg and fried in olive oil?  My mom used to do that a lot too.  My grandfather had a huge garden and grew just about every vegetable imaginable.  My blood vessels are probably coated with cholesterol!

Never had the Zucchini Flowers dipped in egg and fried in Olive Oil but I would love to try it sometime. I am a Olive Oil nut. Anything done up with Olive Oil I am sure I will like. Its in my blood. Olive Oil is suppose to be good for you anyway. I wouldn't worry Minty.

My grandfather also had a huge garden I remember while growning up in Bround Brook. We also had different fruit trees in the yard. It was great to just go out and pick a fruit off the tree or vegetables from the garden. The only thing I have growing are tomato plants at my home.  Have a couple of fruit trees but where I live the squirrels and deer do a number on them. My pear tree is already bare as it was picked clean already. Usually by the end of August, beginning of September they were ready to eat. Guess I have to wait until next year. Last year I was left one pear on the tree. I guess they missed that one. smile
