Now this hill was scary. I will never forget a bunch of us kids playing chicken flying down the hill toward the fence near 2nd Street to just slam on your brakes from your bicycle to skid toward the fence without hitting it. Well one day I went down and guess what? My brakes failed me on my English Racer. I hit that fence so hard I am surprised I walked away. The hit actually bent the frame on my bike.
Back in the 60's when skate boards started to become popular Lafayette School hill was the hill to be on. The skate boards back then basically were boards with real roller skate steel wheels, nothing like what they came out with later on. Man that was fun. Wouldn't even think of doing either at my age today. I hurt just thinking about it.
