Cal's Esso Gas Station On Main Street, Bound Brook

Cals Esso Station. Plenty should remember Cal's. I remember Cal's like it was yesterday as I walked to school past and through their lot. I can't forget Bobby and Dave Cal both working there with their brother Albert with their father and their Boxer Dog Cindy greeting the people coming in. They had a good business there on the Main Street of Bound Brook and were well liked by the people from town.

I can't forget all the days of playing stickball or wiffle ball in the St.Joe's school yard and dying of thirst after a game. We couldn't wait to get over to Cal's Esso to their soda machine to purchase a iced cold bottle of Coca-Cola or Pepsi for just 10 cents. If I remember correctly the Coke bottles held 6 ounches and the Pepsi bottles 8 ounces. Although I always liked the taste of Coke over Pepsi many of the kids playing chose the Pepsi over the Coke for that extra 2 ounces of soda to quench our thirsts. biggrin

I used to love playing with Cindy (the boxer). I remember my dad walking me down there every day after work just so I could see Cindy. I agree with loving to drink their soda from the machine. Those were the days

OMG. . . people remember my dog Cindy??  This is so cool! She was the best dog too!  Cindy loved going to work with my Dad every day!  Brings back lots of good memories reading about all these places in BB!  It was a nice surprise to see Cal's in the list.  I spent many days down at the station watching my Dad work his butt off and helping him too!  Those were the days hanging downtown!  I loved that coke machine too!  Thanks for writing!

Bob and Dave were 2 great guys to know over the years. They gave me some good advice back during the early 80's and I will never forget them for it and they were right on with the advice they gave me. Wish Bob was still around. He left us too soon. Knew him well even as a kid being my parents brought their car to Cals for servicing and as mentioned in this thread years ago when passing through the station on my way to and from St.Joseph School.
