TRENTON, N.J. (AP) The Defense Department says remains found in Laos have been identified as those of a New Jersey airman missing since 1972.
Lt. Col. Henry P. Brauner of Franklin Township, Somerset County, was 36 years old when his AC103A gunship was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. He and 13 others were killed.
Brauner's dog tags and remains of several other crew members were discovered during an excavation mission in 2005 and 2006, and several of the identities were confirmed Tuesday.
Brauner was born in New Brunswick and moved to Franklin Township as a teenager. He graduated from Rutgers University and was a career officer who had volunteered to go to Vietnam.
