Who could forget the BB Diner. They always had good homemade food at a good price. Steve and his son's and daughter in laws did all the cooking with fresh meat from Buno's market. Great breakfast with home fries to die for. My Dad first took me there as a kid in the 50's when it was known as SUPER DINER and was turned the other way facing Middlesex.
Here's your chance to bring the diner back home. I just found the original diner for sale on eBay - see here for details. I thought I remembered something about the diner being bought and shipped out of town.
By Dixie Dude on the same subject transferred to this thread:
Last Tuesday, the Bound Brook Diner hit the road for its new location in Charlotte, North Carolina. The pristine 1948 Fodero landed in the hands of Matt King, a Charlotte restaurateur who originally hails from New Jersey, after he purchased it from Frank Bruno. Bruno purchased the diner in 2001 and had it in storage in Somerville, New Jersey since he moved it from its original location in Bound Brook, New Jersey.
Roadside wishes Matt the best of luck with his new venture and hopes to pay a visit soon after he reopens.
After reading DRM's post I found this article. Dixie

Since the BB diner left, I have not , in any of my travels in and out of NJ , found anyone whose homefries were as good as theirs...eggs cooked perfectly everytime and the best part was when you walked in you knew almost everyone in there.
Apollo, Welcome to the forum. I needed to move this post into the proper forum as the Bound Brook Diner was in Bound Brook and shouldn't be posted in the (RememberWhen? Other Town Section) of the forum. I am surprised Dixie Dude didn't point this out to you as he answered your thread. Being you are a newbie here you might want to check over the 4 or so pages written in the (Yesterdays Bound Brook As You Remember It Section) of the forum to see what is listed there already so that we don't start double posting or even triple posting of what we already have listed here on the forum. All to do with the former Bound Brook Diner should go into the (Yesterdays) section of this forum under Bound Brook Diner since that is where it truly belongs.

Sorry Stone, found those threads after I posted. Kind of bassackwards of me. Great forum. Brings back floods of memories (no pun intended). I lived in SBB for 21 years. My parents were there for almost 50.

Hey All, I did buy the Bound Brook Diner and moved it to Charlotte NC. It almost did not open and was up for sale on ebay. Forunately things turned around and we moved it onto its new foundation the other day and will b uld a kitchen and bathrooms to go with it and hope to be open in September. We have renovated what needed to be and left as much original as possible.
if you are ver in Charlotte, NC look us up. Mattie's Diner.
Welcome to the STS BBNJ Forum. Hopefully this link will be a better link to get everyone to the old Bound Brook Diner video. As Matt mentions when viewing the video the beginning of the video is a short teaser as it goes blank with just general news being discussed for a while. You need to scroll along or just wait to get to the 3:20 minute mark on the video to see the rest of the video. Matt keep us informed as to when your dinner opens. I know a few transplants from the BB area that are in your neck of the woods now and I am sure they would like to pay a visit to the old BB Diner. Dixie Dude a member from this forum and a long time BB Dinner customer is now located in Virginia. Right now he is vacationing in Las Vegas. Trust me when he finds out you are open for business he will travel down to Charlotte to pay a visit. Just make sure you have the Home Fries recipe down pat. The trick is to mix in a little bit of green peppers in with the Home Fries and of course don't forget the onions in the mix. One other thing if you can get someone to place this video on You Tube we will be able to directly link the video to this forum unlike where the video is located right now as the video needs to be a streaming video to link up here. On top of that the video may be lost after awhile and the link may not work down the road so You tube is your best bet to keep it up indefinitely. The link below will take you out of the forum to view it being it is not a streaming video.  Â
I just noticed today after clicking on the link that was provided to us some time back that it is finally down as WBTV in Charlotte finally pulled the plug on the former BB Diner video showing the diners move to North Carolina.Â

Dixie, I just sent Matt a PM asking him to come to the forum to let us know how the Diner is progressing. I know you have the itch to take a trip down to South Carolina to eat once again at the Bound Brook Diner. Homefully Matt will let us know so that you can make the trip down there.
Pass the ketchup!

Here is a message I received from Mattie about the status of the diner.  Dixie
Dixie Dude wrote:Hey Mattie
How is the diner coming along ? I may be coming to N.C next month and was wondering when you will be open. I hope you get this message. Thanks Dixie
Hey Dixie, Lots of back and forth with the city of Charlotte, has pushed us back a little. We are looking at December/January now. To see where it is going to be located go to ncmusicfactory.com.
The address is 915 Hamilton Street.
I will have some stuff up on face book soon. Actually I have a bunch of pics up there now of the move. If you have a facebook acct friend me. Matt King in Charlotte, NC.
mattiesdiner wrote:Hey Dixie, Quick update. Just started grading this Friday. Construction Permits are out from the city. Looking to open by January 15.  Thanks Mattie
Received this message from Mattie last night. Slow but sure the Diner will be open soon.   Dixie

Dixie, Glad to hear that Matt got back to you again. Why don't you suggest he come to this forum to let everyone know what is going on. If anything having more people post at this forum would help the forum some don't you think. Â Heck we are letting many people know of the old BB Diner here on this forum. Matt is a member here and should address all here. Â

HAHA! Where art though. Good Stuff. I've been busy trying to finish up financing for the diner. It's done. We should be open end of the month...first week of August. All depends on how the inspections go this week. Thanks for keeping on me. Mattie  I received this from Mattie a few minutes ago. Â
Dixie, You need to use a larger type once again on this forum as number 1 type is very hard to see for some of us older folk. Must be your computer choosing the smaller type for some reason.
To bad Mattie doesn't inform this forum afterall he is a forum member here. Maybe you should mention something to him. Maybe he lost the link to this forum. Luckily you haven't changed your email address or none of us would know anything.

According to Mattie who emailed me last night the Diner should be open later this month or early August. I will post the info when I get it. I'm planning on a trip to the Diner myself from Virginia.
Hi everyone! This is Mattie's wife, Stacey here... sorry he hasn't been updating as often as he should. However he has been incredibly busy these days, because (drumroll please!) the diner is set to OPEN FRIDAY AUGUST 6TH!! After several years of literal blood, sweat and tears, we are looking forward to finally seeing our dream become a reality. We truly appreciate everyone's support, and reading your posts, I am touched by how much this diner means to people. We hope we are able to honor the wonderful history of the Bound Brook diner, while also bringing it to a new generation of patrons to continue the legacy of this awesome diner! We hope to see some of you there! Dixie Dude, if you do indeed visit, please make sure to ask for Mattie! He will be thrilled to meet you.
In the meantime, we really are on Facebook now. Just look for "Mattie's Diner" Thanks!!
Hi Stacey  I am thrilled to see you guy's are finally getting open. I know it has been a long road but "YOU MADE IT" My Nephew lives in Duncan S C so I should be down your way soon and will surely stop in to visit and get to meet you and Mattie in Person. BEST OF LUCK !! Sincerely Dixie
I finally figured out how to post pictures! Here is the new incarnation of the venerable Bound Brook Diner--now known as Mattie's Diner! I hope everyone will be happy to see that everything (except the name) has been left intact. We've done our best to restore it all to her original glory, down to the tabletop jukeboxes. We did have to tweak a few things to comply with current city and county code, but generally speaking, the diner looks just as it did 60 years ago! (well, maybe the floors aren't as shiny as they were then, but still!)
We hope everyone who remembers her as she once was, will be pleased with what she is now. George--if you're up there looking down at us, we hope we've made you proud.
And a P.S. from Mattie's wife: Do any of you locals happen to know if the original BB Diner sign is still there? I know it was there a few years ago when they were completing construction of the new traffic circle there, but we have no idea if it is still up. I would love to get my hands on it somehow! Thanks! And we hope all is well up north!
Wow they are some nice pictures you have up of the New Matties Diner. I will try to find out if that sign is still around. Hopefully I can get you some info on it here.

Hi  I just got back from a trip to N.J. The Diner looks GREAT !! Good job. I will ask around to try and find some memorabilia for you. Keep up the good work and I am sure George is looking down with Great Pride.      Dixie
Thanks Dixie! If you can find any memorabilia, that would be so great! We really want to have some things we can display if possible. We want to pay homage to the history of our diner and we know our customers would love to see the stuff too. I put an ad on all the Jersey craiglists once, asking people to send any stories, memories, photos etc, but got no response. Maybe I should take out an ad in the Star-Ledger?!
Anyway, we really appreciate all your kind words and support of Mattie's. It truly means a lot to us. We can't wait to see you in here someday!
Hi all.  Thought you might be interested in some more photos of the diner's journey from NJ to Charlotte. We just dug up some of the pictures we took when we first found her, in Bridgewater NJ where Frank Bruno had been storing it. There's also a few that will show you how extensive the water damage was from Hurricane Floyd. These are good "before" shots, to the "after" shots above! Let me know if this link doesn't work. Thanks!

Stacie I have tried my best to find out the information that you are looking for. I PM'd Jim from Lou's Sub Shop right across the street from the former Bound Brook diner earlier in the week and he PM'd me back telling me Bruno is the one to talk too. I am pretty sure you purchased the diner from Bruno. No one else is coming up with any info. Hopfully contacting Bruno will help you in your quest to find any memorablia that you are looking for. If something pops up I will let you know here in this thread. Make sure you check the box in this thread when replying back to it to be informed by email whenever a new post to this topic is posted.Â

Hi R.S. Thank you so much for your efforts. I thought maybe somebody would just know offhand if the sign was still up there--oh well! Contacting Bruno probably is our best bet, like you said. Maybe I could contact someone from George Psak's family as well, though I worry it may be perceived as disrespectful given that he recently passed away--what do you think?Â

Anyway, I really appreciate your help.  Stacey
Stacey I happen to know both of Mr. Psak Seniors sons as I went to grammer school with both. His oldest son was in my class at St.Joseph's in BB back in the day. I still keep in touch with him on occasion as he has handled most of my legal affairs. He has a law office in Middlesex, N.J.. My thoughts on this would be to contact Bruno as Jim from Lou's Sub Shop in the town of Bound Brook told me to tell you. Lou's is right across the street from the old Bound Brook Diner. If anyone would know Jim would know. You might be wasting your time in contacting the Psaks although it was their diner once before. Its up to you. You can give his office a call if you strike out with Bruno.

Stacie, Believe it or not the Bound Brook Diner sign is still up hanging from a pole as I saw it the other day. If I were you I would contact Bruno. I would bet he would let you have someone go up on a ladder and just take the sign down showing (Bound Brook Diner.) What do you have to lose?
