We used to sneak down to Johns from St. Josephs or go after school. Chunky Bar 5 cents. What a chunk-a-chocolate !!
I have to say I am surprised being this thread has been sitting here since April 8th and not many responses. Well for those who aren't in the know unless you are a old timer like Dixie and myself, possibly GIA and a few others also, Johnny Bongiorno use to own John's Confectionary Store. This was a place similiar to Kurtz for newspapers, candy, cigarettes etc. Even had a couple of Pinball machines in the place. Geez wonder how I remember that. Anyway John passed away some years ago. When he walked away from the business downtown he went into the Insurance Business selling Metroplitan Life if I remember correctly. He actually sold my father a policy and use to come over the house now and then. Johns Confectionary was right next door to Chappy's Luchenonette in between Chappy's and Pluhars Tavern. Otto and Joe Williams then ended up moving their Harley Davidson Motorcycle business and Schwin Bicycle business in that space later on.
Dixie if you can fill anything in that I may of forgot on how the place was set up inside go right ahead and tell it like it was.
