I grew up in the Bound Brook Apartments. My parents had a house that was taken by the state for the construction of Interstate 287 so they rented an apartment. Back then it was stylish and middle income to live there, remember Lucy and Ricky Ricardo? We had a garbage man who would pick up our garbage from the porch twice a week on a cart he pulled around. Landscapers would come and trim trees and plant flowers in flowerbeds in the spring. There were garages in the back parking lots that you could rent for an additional fee to keep your car in. The buildings all had laundry rooms in the basements with coin operated washers and dryers. Or you could hang your clothes on the cloths lines in back. No one would think of touching them! There were bathrooms in the laundry rooms also, for your convenience, always stocked with essentials. There was a fenced in playground by each laundry room so your little one could play on the swings, slide or see saw while you tended to your laundry. It was clean, safe and, like the rest of Bound Brook, middle class American living.
Vickyredhead, Don't know if you are still in the area. If not you may not be aware that the old Little League field is gone and a ShopRite and other stores are now across Tea St. The BB Apartments were probably brand new I would guess in 1961. I don't remember when they were built. In 1961 I was only 10 years old. Today the place is a big mess. Not to many good things are said about the BB Apartment these days.

Living on Crescent Dr right next to the BB Apartments we used to play in the complex all the time.. The garages you spoke of made a great place to play " run and jump" off there roofs... The sidewalks were like roads to us and we would ride our bikes through all these "roads".. Playing hide and seek using the whole apartment complex.. Sometimes I think back " how the folks living in there must have hated us"..LOL.. But it was a different time and back then it was just a bunch of kids playing..
