How many remember the South Bound Brook Blast From The Past Car Show held in the park along side Elizabeth Ave. for so many years? The fire department stopped doing the show my guess its been at least 3 years now. I have to say what a shame that has been since I always felt that the show put South Bound Brook on the map. The Blast To The Past Car Show I felt was second to none around this area. Many Car Collectors and Car Cruisers looked forward to this time of year when the car show was previously held. It was a great place to run into former school mates as I ran into many former BBHS students there over the years.
Not long ago I mentioned about this show to one of the SBB Fireman standing on the Canal Bridge pedaling for donations of coins using an empty boot. I said to him wouldn't it be easier making some money for the fire department by still having the Blast From The Past Car Show? He said back to me that they weren't making any money and that it was a lot of work. That was hard for me to believe as the show would bring in sometimes between 250-300 Classic Cars at between $15 and $18 dollars a pop depending upon registration plus they sold food on the grounds to top it off. I suggested that they do away with the Doo Wop and Acapella Groups and just have a DJ present like most Car Shows have spinning the tunes and I also suggested that they hire a Caterer to handle the food on the grounds with a kick back to the Fire Department to cut back on the work involved a Win, Win situation for everyone as far as I am concerned.
Trophy's were always donated by local business's so that was never an expense so somebody tell me why there wasn't any money being made. I just can't buy that story.

Stone I have to agree with you 100% I really miss that show also. They had a BIG crowd of cars and Participants. I used to donate a Trophy every year with Pappo of the "Moonlight Cruisers" and used to go when I lived in N.J. It is hard to believe they didn't make money. The plan you suggested should work with little effort for the Firemen. I guess these Newer Firemen don't want to do the work !! Dixie
