Elvis Costello - - - Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, N.J. 6/9/09

True Elvis Costello And The Attraction fans will be as disappointed as I was after seeing Elvis Costello perform at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J. Tuesday night. What a waste of my time and my family's it was to drive down to Red Bank expecting to see and hear the tunes of the '70's that made Elvis Costello famous. Not one of those tunes such as Allison, Pump It Up, Radio Radio, Peace Love and Understanding,Can't Stand Up For Falling Down,Olivers Army, Clubland or Accidents will happen did he play.cry These are the songs that put him on the charts in the late 70's that were very popular songs on the college music scene back in the day. Instead what we witnessed was the complete oposite of what we expected. Elvis Costello and his new hillbilly band are all about country music now and I am not into Country Music. Well let me just say I am not into Country Music coming from once early Punk Rocker Elvis Costello and I do not recommend anyone go and see Elvis Costello today for this type of music.
It very well seems now that he has abandoned his roots as fans shouted out to him between sets to play the popular songs of his past mentioned above yet it went in one ear and out the other. It just seemed like he could care less of what the fans wanted. Again what a disappointment.thumbsdown.gif

Below is some old video of the Elvis Costello I remember from the 1970's. Enjoy!

Rolling, what a bummer. I know how it feels to look forward to something and then be disappointed because the performance was not anywhere near what you expected.

Zack, Bummer is definitely a word for it and it was'nt just me who was disappointed as it was a packed house with I am sure many who were disappointed for what they saw and heard. I have to say one thing in that what a beautiful area the town of Red Bank is today. Plenty of shops and eateries. Parking sucked though as it seemed we had to park a half mile or so away. The Count Basie Theatre actually reminds me of the Brook Theatre inside for the way it was built. What a shame Bound Brook is the way it is today no because with the right people running the town I can see Bound Brook as being like the town of Red Bank. I can remember and I am sure I mentioned it on this forum before going to concerts at the Brook Theatre on Hamilton Street during the late 80's. I will never forget seeing South Side Johnny play at the Brook Theatre. I wish I had video of that show as it rocked the Brook Threatre that night. The town probably never knew what it had back then as most people I am sure came to this concert from out of town. You know the same could still be happening today if something was done by capable people running the town. The Count Basie Theatre puts Red Bank on the Map for sure.

Rolling, I'm glad you mentioned the Count Basie Theatre. Although I've never been there, I often wondered what it was like inside and how it was to see a show there. Also, I kind of remember reading somewhere that Red Bank was voted one of the best places to live in NJ.
True what you said about BB. It's ashame what it's become. At one time it was such a great place to live and grow up.

Zack my friend as the saying goes (FORGET-ABOUT-IT). Bound Brook dug itself into such a hole they will never get out of it I am sorry to say. Don't you think it would of happened already if possible. Floods and Illegal Aliens is what Bound Brook is known for anymore. It is such a shame and it makes old timers like ourselves sick just thinking about it. no

Red Bank on the other hand I can see being voted one of the best places to live. Well lit streets and very clean is what I saw. Stores that are striving in a town that cares very much about them unlike Bound Brook.
