Helen Elliott's Candy

Who remembers this one on Rte. 22 in Plainfield area.  A walk through the front door of that place was pure heaven for a kid and even as an adult, the smell of chocolate was overwhelming.  I had plenty of Easter goodies from here while growing up, boxed up in those Easter boxes with all the pastel colors on them.  They had some of the best candy!

That was owned by the father of a kid in my high school class. He had a smaller store on Front St. next to the Strand. The Route 22 location has been a Gertrude Hawk for many, many moons.

Easter was the best time but I loved going to Helen Elliott's anytime, the chocolate was the best I've ever had. I was so sorry when it became Gertrude Hawk's but surprised that the chocolate was still very good.
