Som44, I needed to move this thread into the "Remember When? Other Towns" section of the forum as it was posted in the Yesterdays BB section of the forum.

You're talking about Bertrand Island Amusement Park on Lake Hopatcong, which closed in 1983. I used to live in Landing til we moved to Bound Brook in the mid-70's and it was a favorite weekend spot for us kids.
I can remember going there in fact I have some black and white pictures of me standing in front of my dads 1953 Chevy BelAir with the roller coaster in the back ground...I look to be about 5 years old in the picture so it had to be taken in 57ish..

I remember the Lake Hopatcong for sure. It was a nice alternative to shore. Somewhere in the cobwebs of my memory, I recall going there as a guest of the Pannone's (P&M Furniture). My grandmother was good friends with Mr. Pannone's family. They had a nice house up at the Lake and I recall one of those classic all mahogany boats from the 50's that they went out on the lake with.
A little trivia, Mr. Pannone's daughter Janet lived on Linden Ave. in the early 60's when she was 1st married in what used to be her grandmother's house (on her father's side). Mrs. Pannone's mother ( Mrs. Dallessandro), lived at the other end of Linden Ave.
That's right, I believe that Carol and Mike Dellessandro were Janet's grandparents names. They lived right across the street from us. Mike was a big baseball fan and in the summer he would sit on his porch with a huge bottle of Ballentine beer and listen to the Yankee games on the radio. If we happened to be playing ball in the street while he was on his porch he would always cheer us on.
I also remember Janet living on Linden Ave. She would walk down to Eddie the Butcher's to pick up her order and always say hi. When the Pannone kids were young, every once in a while, my Mom would babysit them when their parents, Tony and Clem went out.
You are correct Zach, Carol was the grandmother. I don't remember her husband and he may have been gone by time I could comprehend things. I had the opportunity to see Janet and Clem about 11 years ago here in Fla. I had taken my grandmother to see Janet's Aunt Rose Deccico (her dads sister) in Del Ray Beach and Rose had them come over at the same time. Both Clem and Rose have passed away in the last two years. Janet still leaves in Gulfstream I believe.
My family was related to Joe Pannone who ran their Manville store. Joe Married Olympia..my mother and Olmpia were cousins..They lived Metape Circle.. Titse Rosie (grandmother) and my grandmother were sisters...she was the nicest lady in the world..she lived with Joe and Olmpia and it always was nice to see her when I was there visiting one of the kids..My Grandmother lived right next to Chitch's.
I lived at the lake also at my uncle Tony's and Aunt Clems house all summer long. And the boat was a Chris Craft wood mahogany . Mine was a Thompson . We were on the water last Sunday
