I'm sure that many of you remember Codrington Park.
Is it still there?
I think the pool, park and the field house were the biggest attraction for kids  during the summer. I would go there everyday, sometimes staying there all day swimming, playing zell ball, wiffleball and ping pong and air hockey in the field house with friends that I'd meet there.
Ben Maggio was the Recration Director back then.
Those were really cool times with lots of great memories for me

Codrington park is still there.  In fact, not a lot has changed.  I think they re-surfaced the pool (it's a lot smoother than I remember it) and the basketball set up is relatively new.  I had swim lessons there when I was a kid and my kids have had lessons there the past 2 summers.  They also spend a decent amount of time down there during regular swim hours.  Unfortunately (for them) they are not old enough to be in the fieldhouse yet.

Badge check? Wasn't that when the lifeguard would blow his whistle and everyone had to get out of the pool and they'd have to walk past the lifeguard and show their badge. If you didn't have a badge, Ben Maggio would you'd get suspended from the park until you were 35 and he'd have a full investigation to fine out how you got in the pool without a badge in the first place.

Spent many days at the pool.

Remember "Lorna" the lifeguard - she was Australian and stunning - musta been the summer of 1969.

Remember on Weds - the mentally handicapped kids would come to swim in the kid's pool?  It was an eye-opener.

Mr. Galvacky opened a food shack in one of those wood buildings?

And we cannot forget the bocce court.

EDWARD "ED" F. MCDONOUGH
AGE: 79 FORMERLY OF HILLSBOROUGH
Edward "Ed" F. McDonough, 79, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Edward and Alice (Fitzgerald) McDonough, he had lived in Hillsborough for many years before settling to the South Lake Tahoe, CA and Nevada area in 1985. Ed had received his teaching degree from East Stroudsburg University and his master's degree from Rutgers University. He faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Ed retired in 1985 from the Bridgewater West High School where he had worked for 32 years as a Math Teacher. He was a former communicant at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville. He was an avid skier and had served as a referee at many local football games. Ed was also the former recreation director in Hillsborough, he served as a life guard and swim instructor at the Bound Brook Pools and was proud to have been a master Bridge player.
Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence "Jean" (Strong) McDonough who died in February of 1983 and his step-father who raised him Fred J. Claro. Ed is survived by his seven children: sons, Jim, Eddie, Fran, Fred and Dennis McDonough and daughters, Janice Mathewson and Regina McDonough. He will be deeply missed by his nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
Relatives and friends are invited to join with Ed's family for an evening of sharing memories on Friday, August 13th from 7-9 p.m. at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835. Final disposition at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick will be private. To send condolences to the family, or to sign an online guest book, please visit www.FucilloandWarrenFuneralHome.com.

That pool was so nice , with the two diving boards and all  , I remember the water as always being so cold and crystal clear .
