I think you hit the nail on the head. Johansons was a Great Bakery. You can't even find many Bakeries today. Bound Brook had some good ones. Glad we were able to experiance them . People today think this frozen baked stuff is the real deal !! If they only knew what they missed.
I don't know if it was a German bakery but it was owned by the Shaiffle family and they were German. I can't remember the name of it and no, it was not Johanssen's which was on the other end of Union Ave. The son of the owner who worked there when he was younger just passed away a few months ago, he class of 60 or 61 BBHS and his name was Adolph.
That was it, For Get Me Not, great memory, Stone. The Shaiffles (thanks joesdad) had a son named Adolf. He and others always hungout at Tommy Plick's barber shop on Talmage. He was a real wiseazz I remember we'd stop at the bakery when I worked a summer job for the Bound Brook Road Dept and they would give us day old buns and pasteries for free. Good times!
As usual Rolling Stone comes through with the correct information. I now remember Forget me not Bakery and Johansons which was close to the Sunoco station on ran in 1966 across from Codington Apts. Thanks Stone for clearing this up. Bon Appetite !!
For-Get-Me not had the best crumb buns out of the 3 bakeries in Bound Brook; Forgetmenot, Johanssens, and the BB bakery (in my humble opinion). The buns were always 50% crumbs. After I moved out of state and I was back visiting I asked them for the recipe for the crumb buns, but they wouldn't give it to me. This brings me to another question, where can you find real crumb buns in the area? When I come up there I can't find any decent ones any more. Fortunately I have a brother in law who gets me the real deals from an old bakery in Hackensack.

Baduce have you tried Mediterraneo Bakery on Union ave since you have been back to the Bound Brook area? I have to say they have a good crumb bun. I can't tell the difference from the ones I remember having years ago. I remember my grandmother on almost every Sunday it seems going to get a large crumb bun filled with whip cream either at (For Get Me Not) or the (BB Bakery) to take home in a large white box tied together with string across all sides. Man that was good eating after church on a Sunday morning. The bun must of been 10 inches across x 10inches as it set in the box. As good as it was it lasted us a few days at our house.
I was telling my daughter about this one day not too long ago so she went up to see Pedro one of the owners of Mediterraneo Bakery and had him make one up for me. It was great!
Baduce I have to thank you for reminding me here of what I have been missing lately. It is time to get another one loaded with whip cream since it has been awhile I will have to say.
