Trolley Tracks

I barely remember that the trolley tracks were still in the road, lastley near the intersection of Tea and Talmadge. This was early 60's sometime.  Anyone remember these?  The trolley I am told used to run Talmadge, down main, to somewhere around River Rd. and Main St.  It may have even run up Raritan Ave. To Union.  Anyone know??

I remember my Dad and some of the other guys from his era saying they used to hold on to the trolley in the snow and skate down River Rd. towards Bound Brook. I myself remember seeing the remnants of the River Rd. tracks in Bound Brook Heights before they repaved the road. That was in the 50's.    Dixie

I have to be honest with you I don't remember trolly tracks in that area and I have 7 years on you joesdad not to say they didn't exist. I use to walk from the West end as a kid with my father during the 50's down to the brook to fish under the Talmadge Ave bridge. Back then Tea Street didn't even exist. I also remember some sort of building to the right of the bridge yet I have no idea what it was back then. confused

Try this link, I hope it works.  Great pics of Bound Brook, some history, and yes, the Trolley Tracks!!  They did run down Talmadge around Columbus Pl., down Main to River Rd.  I believe there was a turnstyle at River Rd. and Main to turn the cars around.  If the link doesn't work, just google Bound Brook Trolley and it wil get you there.

AS the saying Go's " A picture is worth a thousand words" From viewing the Pic's and reading the captions I guess the trolley did go down river Rd. to New Brunswick as my Dad said. Thanks for this article it was nice to see Old Time Bound Brook.    Dixie

Great link Joesdad. I remember hearing about the Trolly but again I have to admit I don't remember seeing any tracks in the road during the 60's. Being you were born in '58 I would say you had to be at least 7 years old to remember something like that. That would bring us to say 1965. I will have to ask around to see if anyone else remembers them to where they were exposed in the road during the 60's or even the 50's because I just don't remember seeing them. Anyway I never saw that website link and there is plenty of pictures and reading for me to do. Thanks again for sharing it (J).

Just got done reading and viewing the pictures in the link Joesdad provided to us. Man, would I like to go back in a Time Machine if it were at all possible just to take a walk around. About 2 weeks worth. I am willing to bet there are more takers out there that would want to do the same.biggrin
