Does anyone remember Billy Goat's Hill? It's a small section of Fairview Ave between Second St and High St. As a kid, it looked pretty steep but today it doesn't look very menacing at all Whenever it snowed enough and school was closed, the town would block it off and we'd all get our sleds and ride down the hill all day long. Sometimes we weren't able to stop at the end of the hill and we'd end up in oncoming traffic on Second St but that was part of the fun.
Absolutely remember it. Funny, you are correct, doesn't look so menacing now. I can remember one particular snow day when my grandmother set me up with a thermos of hot chocolate to take up there with me! Usually went with the Dellecave's from end of Talmage to do this for the day. You knew it was time to go home when you heard the 4:45 whistle blow at Calco! Hey Zach, check private messages!!
Get times on that big hill---ha-ha back in the day.Always had fun sleeding down the.Aunt & Uncle lived on the hill so I had my own private bathroom etc,
From my end of town we didn't go to Billy Goats hill much .. Anyone that grew up around the Crescent Dr area will remember I had a hill in my back yard that was about the size of Billy Goats Hill.. My back yard was always packed with kids.. Parents would even come with the younger kids. Now days people would be too affaird of being sued to let someone sleigh ride on their property.. Or we went to the Thompson Ave and RT 22 overpass , or the hiking trail up to White Rock "Angles path", Angles Path took 1/2 hour to walk up but the ride down was well worth it!!! We swore we were going 100 MPH down Angles Path!!! I don't know just how fast we would go.. But it sure did feel like 100 MPH... LOL
