The last event of the summer in town. It was the place to start checking with friends who was going to be in your homeroom at school. The food was great and just alot of fun hanging out. Sure miss both St Marys and St Joes carnivals..
I used to love that carnival. Somehow, it all seemed so much bigger back then. When I look at the parking lot now, I can't believe all that fun was packed into that small area. But then again, I was a lot smaller myself!
St. Mary's Carnival was always fun, could not wait for that week in August. It was always packed and always a great place to see people just before school started. Does anyone remember the only place St. Mary's Carnival was held besides the church parking lot???
St Joseph's was always the my favorite.. But St Mary was always a great time too.. But heck with guys I grew up with in BB, we could have a good time in a empty parking lot..LOL

One thing St. Mary's had that St. Joe's did not was the frozen custard, it was the greatest. The same white haired lady served it from the time I can remember and probably beyond my age of 20 or so. In fact my Aunt said that same woman was there when she was kid!!!Â
Yes, in BB we could have fun in an empty parking lot. Spent many a nite in Thul's parking lot hanging out as well as the Train Station and Michael James across from Krauszer's!
I use to like pitching nickels into the glassware to win the item. That was a skill to have getting that coin to stay on top of a dish or ashtray. Made a kid feel real good when he won and cheap fun. Do any of you remember those skinny bamboo walking canes you could win at St. Mary's Carniville? I came across 2 of them sitting in my late fathers detached garage at the home I grew up in. I remember some of the kids sticking already chewed gum under the bottom of those canes trying to pick up coins that went astray in the pitching area when they thought no one was looking.

Also, the fish stand - win those silly gold fish that lasted till the next afternoon - but you were so proud to walk around the carnival with one in hand. You were cool.
I just remembered the name of the Carnival Company.
BELLANTONI's - the owner was crusty but alway gave you a great tip if you ran and got them sodas or sandwichs.
MEMORIES --- this blog is creating a nostalgia rush........
Laskobirch, I hope you enjoy this section of the forum. Many of us enjoyed putting it together starting it a few years back. You have at the moment (5 pages) of Memories to go through as we tried to do something different here at the STS BBNJ Forum for former Bound Brook residents and for those BB residents who are still here and remember Yesterdays Bound Brook. New residents also get to see some of the history this town had just by reading some of different threads here.
Enjoy yourself and have some fun!  Â

Thanks for starting this Rolling Stone. I was sent here by folks at 08805.com - more interested in the nostalgia and memories as I get older. Unfortunately, everytime I visit BB I get more discouraged watching the sad decline of my hometown.
It is good to remember how it was.
I've already posted in a number of areas.
I may end up disclosing who I am by those postings, but what the heck.
I only wish my kids had the same opportunity for memories of the small town life and extended familes.
Many fond memoirs of the carnival, I also remember the fireworks that they had for years late at night, they started firing them off in the afternoon (the loud non-sparkling type) to bring attention to the carnival. I believe they stopped the fireworks display after one didn’t detonate until it landed in the back yard of the house next door, not sure if it was the Lopa’s. There were many older women (maybe some men) and the Bound Brook Rescue Squad came to assist as many of them, not only from the loud noise but the shock wave.
Talk about memories! I remember the procession during the day and then the carnival in the evenings..what fun! The only bad memory I have is of going on the bullet ride and screaming in terror the whole way until they were able to stop the ride, got off, fell down and heaved all over the guys shoes..eww.
I use to like going on the Octopus ride as scary to a kid as it looked back in the day. The Whip was another one of my favorites. I remember the Octopus ride always to the right of the parking lot when viewing it from Vosseler Ave.
