We used to go to Bound Brook Cut Rate Pharmacy across the street get 3 candy bars for 10 cents and go to the movie bouble feature 25 cents. WOW am I getting old or what !!
Brook Theatre brings back plenty of memories. I remember Mrs. Morecraft as the ticket taker. Those classic red chandeliers and the flocked wallpaper. Place had a funky smell like a combination of a locker room and stale popcorn!! I remember being a kid and going to see a "risque" for the time movie. I was allowed to go with my buddy and he got the ok from his mom because for some reason, the movie was approved in St. Joseph's church bulletin as being suitable....OOOPS! We had a ball.
Also remember seeing the Sound of Music there. Lived close enough that my mom and I walked to the theater. When the movie let out, it was snowing.
Also saw To Sir With Love, my Aunt got stuck babysitting me and she was going to the movie with a bunch of girlfriends and took me with. I had to be about 9 or so.
To Sir with Love made a big impression on me as it was more of a teen type movie. In fact, watched it the other week on cable. What ever happened to Lulu?
BTW, was that Aunt Jean with the big hairdo??? Remember the Raven Haired Fox?
Yes, my aunt Lucie - you definitely did not lose your memory --- she had the bufont hairdo also ---- remember my cousin Chris with the jet black hair - Lucy was her mom
I remember the summer matinees, 20 cartoons, Abbout and Costello, Francis the Talking Mule, Trazan, etc and if you were lucky enough to get a free pass from one of the local merchants, you'd get in for free.
Free Passes for the Bound Brook Theatre were in demand back in the day. Different business's in town gave them out to the kids for the week. Abbott and Costello and The 3 Stooges come to mind. Also remember seeing Hercules on a free pass back then.
