For those former BB residents who have been living away from Bound Brook for a long time and haven't been back to visit you may not know that there is now a Minor League Baseball Stadium located West of Talmadge Ave and Tea Street. It is across the Brook and on the other side of Rt 287 in Bridgewater at a place once known as Calco and also known as American Cynamid. Those of you who didn't know of this are probably shaking your heads as of right now. Yes we have a very large Ballpark right outside of Bound Brook. Who would of thought?
On the other side of the street of what was once known as Calco Park is also gone into history. This large tract of land is now known as the Bridgewater Promenade. Yes a large shopping mall right outside of little old 1 mile square Bound Brook. Below is a link to Somerset Patriot Stadium and a link to the Bridgewater Promenade for all those not in the know to have a little look and see for yourself.
WOW ! I remember when attending St. Joe's we had our annual school picnic at Calco Picnic ground. Hot dogs, hamburgers, water melon etc. Not a BIG DEAL today (Theme Parks) but for that time we had fun just playing ball, Swinging, see saw etc. 50 plus years ago and I can still remember those Happy Days of Childhood and without Gangs, Video's ,Cell phones and such. Dixie
DRM, There were a few entrances leading into the park. One of the entraces was located right off of Rt.28 somewhere's between the road leading out of Pepboys on to Rt.28 and the entrace by the McDonalds. There was also an entrance right in front of St.Josephs cementary. Another lead in at the old Circle right across the street from the Patriots Stadium parking lot closest to Rt.287. This was the furthest away entrance since Calco also had offices where this road lead into. Up aways off of East Main St. from the old circle one could make a right just before the light at Foothill Road which would also lead to the park. Can't remember the name of that road but if I remember correctly there were a couple of homes off that road.
The main area of the park was in the area between Rt.28 and the side road leading in from St Josephs cementary. It was a large park. I went to many of St. Josephs Picnics in that park. They also had a Dance Pavillion at the park. It was a great place to go to.
If I had to bet on it The Home Depot now sits on the end or back of the park whereas Pep Boys, the video Store and Bank sit pretty much in the front section. Looking across Foothill from the cementary there really isn't anything there where there was once a road leading in to the park as I mentioned but Cosco isn't too far behind that road owned by Calco.
Hope I didn't confuse you.

It wasen't really a Park per say. I do remember the dance pavilion. They had a few stand type structures with grills for cooking. Sliding boards, swings and such. I think it was really for Calco employees but they let St. Joe's use it for the annual picnic. Stone was right on the money with his description of the location.
We had our Son's 7th birthday party at the field this year. The Patriots made him feel like a king. Autographs, picture on the scoreboard, running the bases, visit to the locker room, hot dogs and birthday cake. They do a nice job for the kids. We attend a couple of games every year This year the Patriots hosted the All Star game and we attended that game. The fireworks display after some of their games is awesome.
