How can we forget this? Â It was exciting as a kid to ride my bike to the church parking lot to watch the workers set up the rides and the booths. Â Had to beg to go to the Fiesta and walk around. Â Of course would have to put that dime down to try and win a stuffed animal on the wheel! Â The smells, the sounds. Â Food was incredible too. Â Can't beat carnival food especially with an italian flair such as pizza frito. Â The homeade cakes in the win a cake booth were killer also. Â Baked by the lady parishoners. Â
When night came, it was even more magical. Â The lights, the sights, sounds and smells. Â There was a certain excitement slash anxiety as you approached. Â If you were lucky you may run into the girl you had a crush on. You rode your Schwinn to event, locked it on the bike rack and did your walk around. Â Of course, you were a little to young to go in the gym with the "older" guys and listen to local bands cranking out "INAGODADIVIDA"!! Had to hang outside. That would come later in a few years and the tune would be "Layla" instead. Â
St. Joe's always seemed to be better than St. Mary's event but I have to say, for Pierogi that St. Mary's was tops.
I remember the Fiesta also. Those were good inexpensive times. Sausage & Peppers I can smell it cooking as I close my eyes and think back to a more peaceful time. I haven't found any Pierogi down here in Virginia. Only Mrs. "T" which are not too bad for frozen. When I lived in N.J I used to go to the church in Dunellen for Pierogi but you had to get there quick or they would sell out. I guess cooking them is a lost art today. God Bless the Older Polish Women for all their fine cooking & Baking and Thank You Joesdad for that Happy Memory you just made my day. Dixie
St.Josephs Fiesta. What a great time to be living in Bound Brook especially as a kid. I couldn't wait for the Fiesta to come. My favorite thing to do at the Fiesta was the nickel pitch for glass wear. Toss the nickel and get it in a glass, ash tray etc. and you won that item. I loved that game and won plenty back in the day. Tossing the ping pong ball to win a gold fish wasn't too bad either. The smell of the food was just out of this world coming from the grounds. The sausage and peppers and pizza-frite went down real good. Got me hungry now. J thanks for bringing up the St. Joe's Fiesta here in the (Yesterdays BB As You Remember It) section of the forum. This makes for some good reading especially to the old timers from BB and Vicinity. Dixie thanks for your contribution also.

How can I forget the Fiesta - it was in my backyard. I felt like it was my own private party. I had the greatest times - especially the pizzelles with powdered sugar - yummy! I also loved playing hide and seek in the tents before the actual fiesta started. They were the fun times.
Pizza-frite, wow!! What I wouldn't give for a Pizza-frite... The Fiesta, The Dances in St Joseph's Gym on the last night of the Fiesta... We just didn't know how good life was back then.. it was just the way it was supposed to be...

Here is my pizza frite story..there was nothing better than when my Dad would bring home left over dough from Chitch's..Mom would wake us up to the smell of frying dough..I would rush to get down before my sisters to eat the pizza frite..of course by about 10:30 in the morning you were ready for a nap..since you ate so much..
The Fiesta was a great time..like others have said the food, the music, the excitment it was just fun..I can also remember my grandmother covering every number on the wheels so her grandchildren could win a prize..was not until much latter I realized she did this..nothing was to much for her grandchildren...man do I miss her!!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the St Joe's Fiesta was Jr. to the St Mary's Fiesta. None the less, St Joes was better, Sorry to all of my Polish friends. The food was spectacular and all of the old Italians meeting and telling stories that we all heard at least twenty times before but always loved to hear again, the music and rides were great. I remember always trying to dodge Father Cardarellie (spelling) because he would always ask me when was the last time I went to confession. I also remember one night missing winning the 50/50 by one number. It was such fun and I'd always go for at least a little while each night Thanks
I have not thought of Father Cardarellie in a long time..Last I I saw him was in Flemington at the Shop Rite (Mr. Collolillo's) after he left the priesthood..he told me to call him Vince..I could not do it after having served so many masses with him..it was nice to see him and he sure was a happy man/

they were the best of times ,the ferris wheel ,the octopus ,the dry ice ,black lable and clams, it was also close enough to be in my back yard , ceret , angelo , julie , steve ,victor, robert , linda , and me ,remember geselle hall ?she hung with us for a while. i remember linda winning a girls schwinn in the 50-50
You forgot Tommy and Paul. In fact, it was me who gave Serrette his name (not ciret). That was a story of its own thanks to his spanish speaking mom and my lack of understanding what she was trying to say (in English). I grew up with Robert and Victor. But yes, playing ringalevio (a game Serrette and Paul came up with) in and out of the tents was more fun than the actual carnival itself.
Yeah I forgot to write there names there but I did'nt forget them , they are just as close to me as everyone else at that time , i got bit by Victors dog ! Paul almost killed me once on his bike , yeah and if I was in your class at Saint Joes , you did'nt want me on your side during the spelling bees , I know who gave Serrette that name ! thats so strange because i was thinking about you guys for the last couple days , Grandmom , was the best , Mom , Auntie , Uncle , absolutley some of the best people I have ever met , so glad to have growed up around them . just think of all the stuff we did in that school yard , burned in my mind forever . it just don't get better then that , I would not trade those times for ANYTHING ! ! !

That was Johnny's Confectionary Store. Knew John Bonjorno well. When he closed shop he went into the insurance business selling whole life policy's. There is a Thread about Johnny's Confectionary Store in the  "Yesterdays Bound Brook As You Remember It" section of this forum you might want to check out.
