TRI-R-Food

How many of you remember the old Tri-R-Food Diner on Main Street in Bound Brook? The diner sat right across the street from the Train Station.

I remember TRI-R-Food Diner having Nickel Pinball machines back when I was a kid. Being a kid I really had a fascination for Pinball machines. I will never forget sneaking over to Tri-R's during lunch time at St.Josephs School with a friend to get in some pinball. Man if we ever got caught! I can't help but think about that today. I can remember it just like it was yesterday of how the Tri-R-Food Diner was set up. As you walked in they had 2 pinball machines to the right. To the left there was a sit at counter with stools from the front of the Diner to the rear for those who would like to eat there at the counter and then booths set up across from them.

Today the building houses Douglas Restaurant/Diner formerly Bills II Diner. From 1996 through 2006 the Monday Night BB Cruise took place right in front of this Diner. I am happy to say I was one of 3 that made that last 2006 Cruise happen. Below are a couple of pictures taken at the last Bound Brook Monday Night Cruise.

OH Boy !!  TRi-R  My Aunt Helen used to work there also my Aunts Marie & Ann. I used to play pin ball also. They had "THe Best" Pork Roll, egg & Cheese sandwhich also Henry's Homemade soups. In latter years a bunch of us "Gearheads" used to meet there on Saturday mornings when it was Bills II for breakfast. Fried eggs over easy with fried Snasages and the Best Homefries (Pass the ketchup Goob ) I have been here in Virginia for the last 10 years and have NEVER found a place like it. Thanks for that Memory.

Dixie,
Remember when ordering a glass of Coca Cola soda at Tri-R's how it was made back in the day. For those who were not around back then either Dixie's Aunt Helen or Henry the owner would get a empty Coca Cola glass and add Coke Syrup to the glass and then take the Selzer hose and add Selzer to the Coke Glass. Take a spoon and give it a quick mix. Thats how it was done back then at Tri-R's into the 60's.

They called it a "Fountain Coke" also served Milk Shakes and Floats with a Scoop of Vanilla Ice cream hanging over the side. Also just down the block was Zanelli's Ice Cream Parlor where you could Share an Ice Cream Soda with your Girl Friend. Too bad todays Kids will never have those experiences.

06elese, Welcome to the forum. You are right the hamburgers were great at Tri-R. Never tasted another like it anywhere. If I remember correctly it had a buttery taste to it.  Helen use to make me one heck of a PorkRoll lettuce, tomatoe and Mayo sandwich on a Hamburger Bun that I will never forget either. Both Henry and Helen were nice people back in the day.  I loved going to Tri-R to play pinball back then. I had such a fascination for Pinball that I ended up buying a used Full Size PinBall machine that I still have to this day in my finished basement since purchasing the machine back during the 80's. The thing is its a quarter machine unlike the nickle and dime pinball machines I remember during the mid 60's at Tri-R. I am pretty sure my mahine is a '70's pinball machine but very similiar to what we played then.
